Ark toys are a hallmark of complex toy engineering and were imagined as a interchangeable series of toys. Based on 5mm nylon pegs and a myriad of engineering experiment-like parts, similar to the more technical large scale lego components. The toys can interact and exchange parts, both diecast metal, plastic and the notoriously delicate nylon connectors. You can create very unique toys by combining or removing pieces.
Many of the toys feature gears, pivots, joints, and launchers or springs that add even more complexity.
The box designs make for some of the most compelling from the Ark/Bullmark diecast era. Large window boxes, allow for full visual enjoyment of the toy, box, and accessories. Bold spot colors and metallic inks, combined with unique typography, photography and illustration all present they toy and frame it in neon techno-joy. Pop art at it’s finest.
These toys are the first truly mechanical robot forms of otherwise organic movie and tv monsters, typically depicted in soft vinyl that retained their “organic” animal/natural forms.
